Serving in Malawi
Back to Africa
“I can see that God has prepared me through my previous experience, education and
acquired nursing skills for the task of sharing God's love with the selected people group
over a longer period. The main way I see that happening is through health education
and health promotion, but I also know that God can use me in sharing the life and hope
that is found in Jesus.”
Robyn has returned to Africa to help provide health education and health promotion among a selected people group who live in Malawi and Mozambique.
In the 1980s she was a nurse at Fiwale Hill Rural Health Centre in Zambia. Since then
she has continued to have a heart for cross-cultural service expressed in her work
nursing in multi-cultural communities in Sydney's outer west. She also supports and
promotes local and overseas ministry through her church.
A surprise
Robyn was planning to spend three months in Malawi and Mozambique in 2006 doing
HIV/AIDS education. However, God turned those plans up-side-down and she found
herself looking forward to long-term ministry among a selected people group in Malawi.
The people Robyn serves
The Global Interaction team serves a people group who were once feared and powerful
because of their selling of slaves to Arab traders. These people are now marginalised
and disadvantaged in a country that is one of the poorest in the world. They need help.
The health situation in sub-Saharan Africa is appalling. Malaria, AIDS, malnutrition and
maternal and infant mortality rates are the highest in the world. In Malawi, the average
life expectancy is 35 years.
Robyn’s dream
Robyn is a nurse and midwife, with training and experience in maternal and child
health, education, health promotion and development.
